Yachana Foundation

Over the last 18 years, the YACHANA FOUNDATION has generated and invested approximately six million dollars in the Ecuadorian Amazon. This investment of time and resources has underwritten many triumphs. Truly an integrated development organization involved in many different aspects all designed to improve the lives of the people and protect the environment. Yachana uses an unusual development model of non-profit / for-profit where the Foundation owns two for-profit companies, Yachana Lodge and Yachana Technology. Yachana is involved in Geotourism, education, agriculture, healthcare, microenterprise development and technical assistance.

Founded in the early 1990’s by their visionary leader, Douglas McMeekin, Yachana has become highly respected around the world for its leadership in instilling local empowerment for indigenous communities through education. From building schools to a community health clinic, Yachana changes the lives of local communities by giving them the educational tools they need to be successful in life. Learn about the organization, their amazing staff, the school faculty and students, and how they are changing individual lives and entire communities along with preserving their rich local environment for the long haul.

By working towards self-sustainability and capitalizing on our strength as an all-inclusive people organization, CEAE serves as a nerve center, directing projects involving environmental awareness and education .

CEAE believes that education is the starting point for change. People who work here share a strong commitment to protecting the planet. We believe in using the power of education and film to inspire solutions to the environmental crisis.

The organization has spearheaded a variety of projects such as Moonrise Film Festival, the first environmental film festival in the Philippines. CEAE constantly produces and distributes new content such as the award winning documentary Children of the Mountains, Endangered Tales, and other environmental festival winners.

Jukka Holopainen (Founder – CEAE)

This rastafarian, happy-go-lucky surfer is the most passionate conservationist on the planet. A philosopy major, Jukka pondered the meaning of life, the meaning of life without nature, and in 2000 opened his own NGO. He currently owns the world record for the longest list of “Did you know…” trivia which he deftly juggles into conversation to convince you to do anything he says. Common habitats: conference halls, picket stands, fast left-hander barrels, and always in close proximity to a canine specie.
